Apologies to Trollope

The New York jazz duo Dave’s True Story had a good song called “I’ll never read Trollope again”. In it, the singer declares herself a diehard fan of pondering nineteenth century novelist Anthony Trollope. She prefers to read a novel that is “thicker than a steak” and he tops her list of writers who wrote books that go on forever.

The band broke up, Trollope is dead, and a lot people struggle to read emails longer than a sentence. So, here are six tips for effective writing.

  1. Keep it snappy.
  2. Don’t defame anyone.
  3. Writing doesn’t last.
  4. Writing can last forever.
  5. Have fun.
  6. 500 words max.
